Karaoke King

Brady died… he was a very old simbot though. (Did I mention when Alley died, btw? She died a couple of posts ago if not)

Anyway, on with things and there are two main topics occupying my gameplay lately. The first of these is all things horsey. I love how they get a nice apples moodlet when they eat apples.

We’ve been racing. We’ve won a beginner competition in all three categories (showjumping, cross-country, racing) and we’re now trying to best ‘advanced’. I forget exactly where Blackberry and Ecover are, skills-wise, but I think something like 5-6 points on the racing, and a little less on the jumping.  We’ve experimented in our first few advanced events.  I’ve been starting on one pace and then adapting it if our position slips.

After we got stuck in fourth, I took risks and we went up…

…but not for long. So we went for broke…

LOL* oops.

*LOL in the normal internet/SMS sense, not the David Cameron sense.

Meh.

My suspicion is that it probably goes more off skill than off racing modes.

Now, racing is something we’re more highly skilled in than show-jumping…

A much lower placing, regardless of what we did. Still, this whole area needs MOAR experimenting. At least this is the right legacy for that.

D’awww.  The pet moodlets are the cutest moodlets.

I missed it, due to caring for other sims, but Blackberry must have gotten wet in one of the water jumps 🙂

Neither she or Ecover will jump through the fire yet. Spoilsports. They ought to be grateful Generation 3 took that travelling bullet for them. Sims today don’t know they’re born (or bought from the science lab in exchange for a bunch of LTH points) etc.

This kind of thing also happens when I take my eye off them.

Silverstone is learning to jump all by himself. I want Puddle to learn with him, but with the sculpting and caring for the twins, Puddle has a lot on his plate right now.

But… awwwwww.

You maybe can’t see this so clearly (and note the usual pet = miserable plumbob and moodlets) but Silverstone had a ‘be groomed’ appear out of my control.  I wondered who would groom him – possibly the paparazzi?

Nope – autonomous mother/son grooming. Too cute!

Blackberry now gets to do a cool pose on the horse. At first I thought this was it…

Attagirl! Ya-hooooo!

I didn’t even know sims could shovel hay until Blackberry started doing it autonomously.

Did we see this gnome last chapter? Don’t care if we did, I luvvs it.

Operation getting Leon Jackson and Ruth Badger to be friends isn’t going that well, although he gives her more attention than anyone else. But basically she’s pretty neglected.

…So neglected that I tried to drown her, just to see. I failed though.

Weirdly, our town has a spawn of Ruth Bdager-like clone dogs.

She tried befriending one (failed)…

…and got into a scrap with another.

Bramble is still slogging away at the skill challenges… a few off the ‘learned X recipes’ and seemingly lots of the ‘served 60 sims’ and ‘made 500 drinks’. Blech.

The old lush even took Drusilla to the pub with her and left her on the floor, which I didn’t realise until the twins had their birthday.

Baby picspam time!

Yeah, obviously I mean Count Duckula picspam time (sorry Drusilla).

Ooh, look, swingy thing.

*Sticks on fast mode*

Hahahaha, the nauseous moodlet!

It’s not cruel when they’re only pixels, right?

Sorry Bramble, but…

Hahahahahahahhaha! It makes the babies nauseous!

Bunnicula… exists. She’s flunking school, even though Leon Jackson is doing fine.

When she’s not doing the simbot morph…

…she’s working on potions. We’ll get her up to the IF potion level and then we’ll muck about with drinking them. Not sure what else she will do. I’m trying to figure out how this gen will work – it’s meant to be the five kids gen and the music gen, but we’re going to need room for Puddle’s next two children and his stripper wife and if we have IFs in the mix as well… I have a few ideas, but we’ll see how they pan out.

Bunnicula’s not that exciting right now, but I feel bad if she doesn’t get blog coverage.

She also just got an opportunity I’ve never seen before, so that’s always nice.

Mona’s almost there. I don’t feel I’ve experimented enough with the architect career in terms of pratting about with adding custom paintings, sculptures, photos etc so I’m going to try doing that for these last few rooms.

The main thing we’re doing other than horse riding and baby-caring is playing with Showtime a bit. (And I’ve just realised I’m going to have to experiment with SimPort if I’m doing this challenge properly… great…)

There was a variety show type thing at one of the town locations.

Reacting to the acts means another set of glorious Blackberry expressions!

Lawd luv’er.

You can heckle the acts – we didn’t get time to – but sims can also heckle each other… and they can heckle the babies. They boo the baby and the baby gets one of those moodlets you get when the sims have had bad socialisation.

I hope the sim social workers aren’t reading this post!

We got karaoke and Leon Jackson (who has the Diva trait) had a go. He got to sing a duet with his IF, Boinky.

Immediately he rolled up the LTW to top the singing career. Yup, that’s music, which is what I want for Gen 9.

Ya boo sucks to all the imaginary friend haters. This is the cutest thing ever. Even cuter is when Boinky disappears and Leon Jackson sings to himself if you’re operating another member of the family.

❤ ❤ ❤

After ballet class I sent him to the karaoke bar where he got to show off his moves…

…sang his little heart out…

…and duetted with some unsuitable townies.

He got da moves! It must be all that ballet.

Birthday time! Natural born performer? Oh yeah.

He can’t wait to do his LTW.

He sings a lot, but he isn’t getting better… and he doesn’t have a skill bar, even now he’s a teen.

I then discovered that singing isn’t a skill.

Which is stupid.

He can ta-da! though.

Which is something.

And he can praise himself. Hee.

He’s also learning guitar because I saw a tip on the loading screen saying singers could use the guitar when they perform. I’m guessing singing is probably a hidden skill and it builds when they get into the career – but that’s entirely a guess. I know I could read up on it but I like learning as I go.

Boinky got stuck ageing and it took a lot of fiddling to get him to age up. And when he did, he looked like this.

This is in no way as cute as his doll self doing it.

Although…

Join us next time for more horses and karaoke probably. And I’ll get the little ones doing something or other.

  1. Am I really the first to comment, or this just my computer acting up? 😉 I’m excited to check out everything in showtime next generation, because I’m skeptical about buying it. My game is already slow enough, now that I think about it. Leon Jackson and Boinky are so cute! I have to say I love the karaoke machine. I’m surprised that there’s no singing skill…that doesn’t make so much sense. Anywho, I’m excited for the next update! 🙂

    • Well, Gen 9 still have lots of Late Night stuff to explore ( know!!!) so they will probably only do a fraction of the Superstar stuff. But it should be fun 🙂

  2. Yes singing is a hidden skill, and I think Karoke is a seperate hidden skill.
Whatever you do don’t have acrobat, magician and singer all on the go at once. It makes it very complicated managing all the gigs.

  3. I agree with pinkfiend1! And I would advise you against the sociable tract, too, which is the most annoying invention, but I know it’s pointless! Btw, I’m looking for someone to experiment with simport too, and, while I had sent someone away, I never got to host someone in my family yet! If you’re interested, you could PM me on boolprop – same nickname!

    • Cool – well, not sure we can do much until LJ is a YA but I will definitely bear that in mind.

      What’s the sociable tract?

      • There is a social butterfly trait. I think that might be what she means.

      • Oh, maybe in English it’s called differently… it’s the one of Showtime that make the social need decrease very rapidly. It has a butterfly symbol, I think.

  4. Yep that would be the social butterfly trait. Works well if you want a super popular, or woohoo related ltw though.

  5. great post!

leon jackson is my favorite sim, he’s too cute! ahh, I miss the singing from the Sims 1 – Superstar was my favorite EP and I made all my Sims become fameous and actors/singers. I loved it.

I wasn’t sure I would get Showtime, but after seeing this… I HAVE TO HAVE SINGING SIMS.

    and boinky. adorable. just, adorable.

I love Dayes of our lives so much, you are doing a great job with this legacy. It has helped me alot, discovering new things and things I’d never try (like playable ghost, mummies, god knows what else have been playable through the generations).

This kind of makes me want to install Pets again – I miss the animals. It’s too bad it’s so difficult to keep them happy though. I always get two pets so they can interact with eachother, but more than that would probably drive me crazy. Horses are most difficult for some reason, at least thats what I think, and dogs are the easiest. They pretty much just eat, sleep and play. (and, you might already know this, but dogs can hunt for metals and gems and stuff, and my dog once brought home 4 or 5 pink diamonds – if you want more simbots in the future.)

Looking forward to the next chapter – can’t wait to see what happens next!

    xoxo
    Vicky

    • Showtime is great from what I’ve experienced so far. Not sure about how I’ll like simporting but we’re not at that stage yet.

I have always been impossible with pets. I’m a bad pet simmer.

I haven’t played for ages as have been busy and then been away but I’m off work for a few days so I will be getting back into it 😀
